Family history

Dear Thomas and Katie,

I’ve been very busy at work this week (just how I like it!), and I hope you’ve had a good time at school.

I’ve been thinking for a while about starting a new website about our family and about where you and I came from.  I have lots and lots of information about your ancestors which I would like you to have for when you’re older and become more interested in these things; I don’t want it to be lost!

So, this month (November) I’m going to start a new project called The Wainwright Family, which will include all my research into our family history and in particular regarding Thomas Wainwright & Sons, our engineering business in Stalybridge, which I have a particular fascination with.

I know your Mummy has done quite a bit on her side too, so perhaps she’d talk to you about that too one day.

I’ll update this page when the first pages of the new site are ready so you can have a look.

    Dear Thomas and Katie,

We are glad that your Daddy is working on this project. We read something in the newspaper recently which said: “If you don’t know your family history you know nothing; you are like a leaf that doesn’t know it is part of a tree.”

Hi, I started work at Tomas Wainrights and sons at 15(my first job) I was the last apprentice to be employed there before they closed up shop. I remember Edgar and John, and I think another family member worked in the foundry, maybe he was called John also.
