Sandos San Blas, New Year’s Eve 2013

Especially for Nana, to see some of the grub we had at San Blas!

Xmas decorations …

Posh tablecloths …

Different kinds of salt (saffron, smoked, paprika’d, etc) though I’d have defied anyone to tell the difference … !

Cold buffet:  huge salmon, prawns, langoustines, crab salad in pineapple leaves (background), caviar …

… shrimp and lobster salad in a kind of weird cut-out fruit as a serving dish …

Sushi and chestnuts …

Roast turkey with papas arrugadas and mojo … a bit boring to be honest …

An enormous sea bass the size of Charlie, baked in a salt crust … well, the remains of it (it got scoffed quickly!)

Some nice jamones …

And lots of types of oil infused with garlic and rosemary …

At this point there should be pictures of the fish grill, but I didn’t get any.  There were prawns, lobsters, hake, fish soup, mussels in escabeche, and – best of all – fresh clams in white wine, the best I’ve ever had anywhere.   Yummy!

Desserts …

Chocolate fountain; the kids loved this!

Chunks of a real banana tree (there’s a plantation next door in Los Abrigos) …

And a pineapple tree (well, ok, not really but clever eh?) …

There was only one disaster, and that was some lovely whole roast ducks that were meant to go in pancakes, Chinese-style.   They shredded them up and then served them with flour tortillas which ruined them completely (far too thick and dominating).
